I just decided to do this and haven't had time
to get detailed information together. I'll add more detail as I get time. For
now if you are interested in these trails or have more information please
contact me.

Lake Tom Steed
No need for anything here. If you found this page then you know Steed is
the main focus of this site. See the main page
for all the details.
Lake Frederick
Many years ago we raced at Frederick. In fact I was still a newbie back
then. The trail has since become overgrown and almost non-existent. KCR received a
grant to help maintain this trail and with the help from a local Frederick bank
equipment has been purchased and trail work is in progress. We've cut the
front section and will concentrate on finishing a creek crossing and back
section over the Winter. Trail will be open for riding asap.
SOAR Trail
SOAR is an abandoned summer church camp located in the midst of Quartz
Mountains. It's just south of Lake Lugert right off of Highway 44.
The camp is gated off, but you can park at the entrance and simply ride your
bike to the camp and beyond. The trail actual begins about a mile south of
the abandoned camp. Follow the dirt road south and you eventually circle a
pond. As you navigate around the pond you'll come to a drop down an old
abandoned section of highway (The first in the state if I've heard correctly)
and come to a set of fences. You actually don't go down that cement, but
it's cool to check out. If you look at the end of the road east of the
pond there should be a trail visible. The fencing is
necessary to keep the owners cattle from getting loose and not to keep us out. I hope to
ride this trail very soon and will post more specific information after I get
first-hand knowledge of the trail. The trail is maintained by a group of
Altus bikers who we hope will join KCR.
Goldmine Trail
We have not been maintaining this trail, although, we keep saying we are going
to get it cleared. Just never seem to find the time. It is located
just North of Lake Tom Steed. You can access the trail just a couple of
miles north down 183 from the Lake Steed Park Entrance. This is a fun
little trail that is mostly mid to beginner-level terrain with a few short rocky
sections to remind you that big brother (Steed Trail) is just up the road.
I've occasionally used this as a cool down loop on the way home after a ride at
Lake Steed.
Minnow Ranch
Located on the service road south just as you enter Quartz Mountain State Park
from Highway 44. Hit the service road for a few hundred feet and veer left (east) under the
Highway. About a quarter mile down you'll come to an archway with the
Minnow Ranch sign. You should be able to see the entrance of the trail on
the north side of the road. Just park right on the side of the road.
I've ridden only part of this trail and hope to get more specifics later from
the guys in Altus who maintain this trail along with the SOAR trail.
Quartz Mountain
I had no idea that a trail existed within Quartz Mountain State Park, however,
I've recently heard that our Altus group once again are in discussion with Quartz
Mountain and the local climbing club that manage the land about access for
mountain bikes. Hopefully they can work out a deal. I'll post more
information as I get it. In fact I'm not even sure of the exact location.
I believe that it is just west of the main park toward Baldy's Point.
Please let me know if you have more information that you can pass on my way.
